Zvezda 1/72 Fw 190A-4 - Roger Fabrocini - Burbank, CA

If you haven't caught on yet, Zvezda is making some first class models. There 1:48 Me-109Fs are considered the best F model out there, and their attention to detail is not lost on their 1:72 "snap-Fit" models.

Construction was quick and easy. Panel lines are sharp and fit is excellent through out. a pilot figure is included, which i painted with Vallejo acrylics. As kitted, the model represents a late model a-4 with louvered engine cooling vents and covered dish-type wheel hubs. I used Barracuda Cast early style wheels and Fw 190A-1 thru A-8 Prop and Spinner. The wheels add finesse to an already well detailed landing gear assembly. The prop and spinner replace a overly bulbous spinner and slightly broad prop blades. Both fit perfectly. I also replaced the kit wing cannons with Quikboost parts.
I chose to model W.nr. 0601, 'White 1', 1./JG1, using the profile found in Classic Publication's Focke-Wulf Fw190 vol. two, 1943-1944 as a painting guide. Markings were sourced from assorted sheets. i painted the cowling checkers and fuselage Balkenkreuz to replicate the worn and faded look depicted in the profile.

I used combinations of Gunze and Mr. Color RLM 74/75/76 paints. Weathering was kept to a minimum using artist oil washes, post shading with very thin black/red-brown mix and chipping with a silver PrismaColor colored pencil.

Barracuda Cast parts used:

BR72088 Fw 190A-1 through A-4 Wheels
